The series Dae Jang Geum has been so popular that now it has its own theme park, so to speak. Dae Jang Geum Theme Park (www.imbc.com/entertain/mbcticket/mbcplay/2004/daejanggumtheme_eng/index.html) is located in Yangjoo, which is north of Seoul. The park contains all of the sets used in the series, including the King’s palace and the royal kitchen.
From what I’ve read, everything is accessible to visitors so you can get great photos. In addition, there are also costumes to try on and traditional Korean games to plays.
Maybe I sound like a geek, but this is one place I’d love to visit. Since most of the other places we want to visit are south of Seoul, I’m not sure we’ll be able to fit it into our next trip. But it’s on our list of places to see so hopefully we can work it into one of our upcoming trips.
If you’re interested in reading more about the park, the Korean tourism site has a review of the park (http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_6.jsp?cid=571376) that originally appeared in Seoul magazine.
While the theme park has the sets used in the series, other locations were also used for filming. For a listing of them, see Sunday’s post and the link to the Korea Tourism Organization page on Dae Jang Geum.
