I can spend hours in bookstores, even small ones. So I could probably spend weeks in the Kyobo Bookstore in Seoul. The main store is the most famous and is located in the basement of the Kyobo Life Building. It’s huge, filled with books, of course, as well as music and other sections.
In our three-and-a-half day stay in Korea, we went to the bookstore two times. We got children’s books, hangul magnets, posters, and a CD of children’s music. And it would have been more but we were trying to limit what we brought back and we were short on time.
There’s lots to do and see in the area around the Kyobo Bookstore. In the middle of the street in front of the building stands the statue of Admiral Yi Sun Shin, famous for developing the turtle ships. Also near the store are Deoksugung Palace, City Hall, and the Chongdong Theater.
Right now the main store in the Kyobo Life Building is under renovation. But an equally large store can be found in the Gangnam district. This one is located in the basement of the Kyobo Gangnam Tower.
