Another grandmother and food picture book for kids. This one is Halmoni and the Picnic by Sook Nyul Choi. Our son has recently discovered this one and loves to hear it.
Yunmi’s grandmother has recently moved to the U.S. from Korea. But Yunmi isn’t sure how she feels when Halmoni is asked to chaperone a picnic in Central Park. Will her classmates make fun of Halmoni’s traditional ways? Will they like the kimbap she’ll bring for them to eat?
It’s a sweet book that highlights the difficulties of moving to a new country, as well as that showing how we can learn from each other, if we just open ourselves up to the experience.
